The Giving Tree

Shel Silverstein grew up in New york City and was raised Jewish. Brennan Manning was a childhood friend who later became a Roman Catholic priest.

Years later they reaquainted and Shel shared his story with Brennan about who Jesus was to him- The Giving Tree.

It's a brilliant story speaking not only to childhood desires for acceptance but also to a drive that we all have to 'go our own way'. In the midst of it all God is there in the background.

Isaiah 53:6
We're all like sheep who've wandered off and gotten lost. We've all done our own thing, gone our own way. And God has piled all our sins, everything we've done wrong on him.
