One life at a time...

When asked why she worked with people one at a time rather than caring more about having an impact on a larger scale Mother Theresa replied,

I was called by faith, not by results.

There is within me a tendency to play it safe. I want to stay friends with everyone. I do not like conflict or controversy. Often I think that what we are living (here Nouwen is referring to his world of quiet friendships) is very similar to what St. Paul and the apostles lived during the early years of Christianity- intimate celebrations in people's homes, prayers, conversations and mutual support.
